Staff changes at Bayview Glen PS

Hello Bayview Glen families,

We can hardly believe that the 2017-18 school year is quickly coming to an end! We are so very proud of the many accomplishments this year, in academics, athletics and extra-curricular activities.  I would like to thank our families and community volunteers for their tremendous support.

We have to say good-bye to a few of our staff members.  We thank them for their dedication and leadership and wish them all the best in the new school year.

We wish all the best to:

  • Ms. Cassandra Smith whose assignment ends in June
  • Ms.Harjeet Kumar whose assignment ends in June
  • Ms. Benazir Assadzada whose assignment ends in June
  • Mr. Matthew Tarek who is taking a year and will return  Sept 2019
  • Ms. Sara Swagerman who is moving to Hamilton
  • Mr. Alex Rosenberg who has taken a position at school closer to home
  • Ms. Roxanne Montello who is retiring after a very successful  career in teaching

Please welcome :

  •  Julia Hanks who will be joining us in September 2018. Julia comes to us from McLeod’s Landing PS in Richmond Hill.
  • Jonathan Singh  who will be joining us in September 2018. Jonathan comes to us from Central Park PS in Markham.
  • Amanda Soares who is returning in September 2018.

We  also will be hiring throughout the summer for September 2018.

As we reflect on our 2017-18 school year, we must comment on the work and dedication of our staff.  They are committed to providing excellent educational experiences for our students.  On behalf of our staff and community I would like to thank our office staff Ms. Ruth Yeates, and Ms.Fran Iacovetta, who keep the school ticking; and to our custodian staff Mr. Brian Barrett, and Mr. John Somerville  who keep the school looking lovely.  What great teams!

We must also thank our parent community and the BGPS School Council for the fundraising activities and purchases this year. Your support and involvement in your child’s education is key to their success and we appreciate the continued effort and partnership to enrich the school experience for our students.

Finally, I want to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude for having the opportunity to serve Bayview Glen PS over the past three years. The move to my new school Edward T. Crowle PS in Markham is bittersweet, I will be very close to my home, however it is difficult to say goodbye to the wonderful staff and families here at BGPS.

Please welcome with me, Dr. Malcolm Richmon, the new Principal for September 2018, I am confident that he will continue the many great initiatives we have at our school.

Robin Cockburn  Principal

On behalf of the entire BGPS Staff, we wish you a safe and happy summer holiday!

Student Placements update

Good afternoon,

Early this week, all families would have received a hard copy of the information indicated below.  Please note the deadline has been extended to June 5, 2018. If you have any questions and/or concerns  please do not hesitate to contact the office.

We have already begun organizing and developing plans for the 2018/19 school year.

  • If you know you are moving out of the school, please advise our school office staff as soon as possible.
  • It is also important to register your child for Junior Kindergarten if you are hoping to secure a spot for September.
  • Our staff are presently working on class placements for next year.  We recognize that children have their own learning styles, and we work together to organize classes to meet student learning strengths and needs while balancing a range of social, gender and academic skills and abilities. We invite all parents/ guardians who would like to contribute information regarding their child’s strengths and needs to send it in writing by June 5, 2018.  Please  send via email or by letter addressed to Ms. Cockburn
  • Please note that we do not accept any requests for specific teachers, but will receive notes based on the criteria mentioned above.
  • Please also note that due to class size limits, elementary schools are limited as to the number of straight grades they are able to offer, making combined grades a common practice in our schools.

Thank you

BGPS office

13 Reasons Why movie

As you may be aware, season two of the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why became available on Netflix May 18, 2018.  The series is popular with many adolescents and young adults, and deals with the difficult topic of suicide and other complex issues.  As such, we are sharing a letter from our Director of Education in the interest of providing information regarding the series and resources available to deal with the topics portrayed within the series.

We thank you for your continued partnership in our shared interest of student well-being.
