Fall Food Drive

We are reaching out to the Bayview Glen P.S. community as we continue our annual tradition of collecting donations of non-perishable (mainly food) items in support of the Markham Food Bank.  The Markham Food Bank is a registered non-profit charity working to alleviate food insecurity for Markham community members; they are committed to creating a welcoming environment of fairness and equality for everyone that walks through their doors.

Across Ontario, there has been an increase in food bank usage over the course of the pandemic, including first time usage.  This Markham Food Bank gives assistance to local residents specifically, so if you’re able to make a donation, it will be helping someone in our own greater community.

Among the items appropriate to donate include any in-date and unopened (a) canned food items such as meat, fish, soups, fruit, vegetables, juices, pasta sauces, etc., (b) dry items such as cereals hot & cold, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, biscuits, crackers, cookies, cake mixes, pancake mixes, soup mixes, pudding and jello powders, etc., (c) toiletry items such as hand soap, dish soap, laundry detergent, disposable shavers, hair shampoos, paper hand towels, hair creams, cosmetics, etc., (d) Kraft dinners and all types of pasta, (e) glass items such as pickles, sauces, jams, relishes, salad dressings, etc., and (f) baby diapers and formula.  They have currently identified the following items as most needed: crackers; small and large bags of rice; cake mixes and icing; hot cereal and instant oatmeal; jam; canned salmon, tuna, and sardines; canned evaporated milk; non-dairy milk;  canned vegetables (not corn); vegetarian soups; Kraft Dinner; Sidekick pasta and rice pouches; dry soup mix (e.g. Ramen noodles); cooking oil; baby food (puree, formula, snacks & cereal); diapers sizes 4, 5, & 6; and baby wipes.

We will collect items starting next week and throughout the lead up to the holidays.  There will be donation boxes in each class and your child can drop off items directly in their class, with no need to handle any other items.  We will also have collection boxes in the foyer, so if you have numerous items or heavier items to donate that cannot be sent with your child, simply bring them to the front door of the school and press the intercom button, and we’ll arrange to have the items brought in.

We welcome all members of the Bayview Glen P.S. community -face to face students’ families, hybrid students’ families, or any other community members- to participate in this campaign of giving.

Together we can work to help local families in need!
