We are sharing with the community that asbestos remediation work will take place at our school next week.
Asbestos was used as an insulating material in the construction of all buildings up until the mid 1980s. As a result of health concerns, provincial legislation was created to manage asbestos in buildings. The York Region District School Board has an Asbestos Management Program in place. The Board has been actively monitoring the condition of existing asbestos in schools, and safely securing and removing asbestos for nearly two decades.
Any removal of asbestos from our schools is in full compliance with government regulations. Upon completion of the remediation work, the area of work will be inspected to ensure that it is safe for all staff and students.
If you have any questions or concerns about the safety of the school, please feel free to contact the school office. For health information related to asbestos, please contact the York Region Health Services Department Hotline at 1-800-361-5653.
We thank you for your ongoing support.
