Pumpkins, Data and the Power of Social Media

We wanted to thank everyone who voted for their favourite pumpkin in The People’s Pumpkin Choice Awards II.  In this heated contest, the lead changed several times over the course of the 4 days the poll was open … but the People’s Pumpkin Choice winner, with 53.31% of the vote is … ‘Donut’ Go Breaking Our HeartsCongratulations!  And congratulations go out to all our entrants!

For those interested, as a school of just over 200 students we had a total of 21,837 votes cast, which is remarkably more than 100 votes cast per student.  Our blog traffic, which has typically in the range of 20-30 unique visitors per day eclipsed 9,000 unique visitors on Sunday!

What’s more, while our blog identified the lion’s share of votes from Canada, expectedly enough, we had significant international participation.

Participation from across the globe included nearly one thousand votes from China, along with votes from the United States, Australia, Malaysia, Mexico and fifteen other countries!
