Lice Screening

Each year cases of pediculosis (head lice) are found throughout York Region schools. Head lice do not spread disease though they can be a nuisance.  In an effort to reduce the numbers of cases found and decrease the inconvenience to parents, guardians and students, we are seeking your assistance.  We would ask that you please inspect your child’s hair and scalp for pediculosis.  Periodic inspections during the year will help prevent the spread of head lice.  Resources for families, including how to detect and treat head pediculosis be found at the Canadian Pediatrics Society.

As a convenience for families we will be offering professional head lice screening services for those who wish. Nurse Shelley is a pre-approved service provider in our school board. Each participating student will be screened using individual screening sticks in a discreet and friendly manner.  Nurse Shelley will be conducting three checks throughout the school year, with the first check on (tentatively) October 2nd, followed by January 30th and April 3rd. If you wish for your child to be screened, a payment of $5.00 is required on SchoolCash Online by Wednesday, September 27th, 2019. The payment covers all three lice screenings.

For families new to York Region District School Board or with children attending school for the first time, please contact the school office for any help in registering for SchoolCash Online.

Our thanks for your continued support.
